Overview

International law firm DAC Beachcroft is continuing its international expansion, launching a new office in Peru with three partners, plus a team of eight lawyers, and further strengthening its global marine and shipping offering to clients.

The newly established Lima office will function as a central hub for global marine and shipping activities.  It will also strengthen the firm's current services throughout Latin America, with a specific emphasis on corporate insurance and regulatory work.  Besides Peru, DAC Beachcroft has a presence in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico within Latin America.  Additionally, it has a representative office in Miami and a broad network of affiliations in over twelve other countries across the region.

Two partners, Manuel Quiroga and Oscar Barton, join DACB from the specialist boutique firm they co-founded, Quiroga & Barton, which has an extensive practice in insurance-related maritime and energy, as well as corporate.  Manuel specialises in marine and ports law, (re)insurance, and international trade, advising a wide range of clients from insurance brokers, loss adjusters and reinsurers to port operators, ship and cargo owners, P&I Clubs and freight forwarders.  Oscar is a corporate specialist with extensive experience advising international companies and acting alongside Manuel in insurance and reinsurance-related cases to support clients in complex cases related to the marine, energy, mining, construction, civil liability, and healthcare sectors.

Manuel and Oscar are joined by insurance partner Pedro Richter.  Pedro specialises in the financial and transport sectors and is highly experienced in general insurance and litigation, as well as corporate and regulatory work.  He advises non-life insurance companies, reinsurers, insurance consultants, brokers and companies in various industries, both local and international, as well as global law firms.  Pedro is very highly regarded in the Peruvian insurance market and joins from Richter Abogados.  He was previously a named partner at Torres Carpio Portocarrero & Richter.

"With this stellar team in place and a new regional hub for marine and shipping in LatAm, we are ideally placed to meet the needs of our clients in the region and globally," said Andrés Amunátegui, Head of Latin America at DAC Beachcroft.  "We look forward to working with Manuel, Oscar and Pedro to continue strengthening our offering across the continent and beyond."

Manuel commented, "DACB is very well known to us in Peru and we were drawn to the firm because of its collaborative approach and commitment to both clients and the region.  This is an exciting time to be joining the firm, and I know our clients will benefit from DACB's growing regional and international footprint."

David Pollitt, DAC Beachcroft’s Managing Partner, added, "We are very pleased to be continuing such strong momentum around our international expansion.  With this new office in Peru, our association with Incisive Law in Singapore and several recent hires in London, we are building a top-notch global marine and shipping team and delivering on our ambition to be the law firm of choice for global insurers."

DACB has focused in recent months on strengthening its marine and shipping offering around the world.  In September 2023 it announced an association with Incisive Law in Singapore, giving clients access to shipping, international trade & commodities, and marine insurance expertise across Asia-Pacific.  DACB also made strategic senior hires in London, welcoming Joanne Waters and Nicola Tune into its international maritime, trade and commodities practice.
