Biography
Alex Paterson is a commercial litigator in our Bristol office. He specialises in obtaining urgent injunctive relief / ancillary orders; the protection of confidential information and intellectual property; bringing and defending high value contractual claims; financial services litigation and regulatory advice; leading in the recovery of misappropriated assets and substantial debts (in the UK and overseas); data protection disputes; defamation; product liability; and working on joint instructions for insurers and insureds; fraud; conducting internal investigations (including Bribery Act non-compliance); managing large-scale e-disclosure exercises; disputed senior leavers; compliance, governance and reporting.
Alex's notable experience includes:
- Acting on several injunctions for search and seizure / delivery up of confidential information.
- Assisting a global insurance company to prevent the illegal marketing of sensitive personal data (including negotiating and implementing an agreed course of action with a national newspaper).
- Acting on a complex injunction for a well-known consumer credit client to prevent a substantial volume of business-critical confidential information was being disclosed to a competitor.
- Advising a public healthcare body on a substantial fraud investigation into the provision of services by a key supplier.
- Acting on several £multi-million contractual indemnity claims in the pensions equalisation context.
Alex originally joined DAC Beachcroft in 2013 and, following an initial four years with the firm, spent a year in-house managing the contentious risk and litigation programme for a global private medical insurer, working on a wide variety of commercial disputes, internal investigations (including as part of the company's whistle-blowing mechanism), counter-fraud and medical risk investigations, clinical risk matters, claims and other healthcare benefits matters and policy advice.
Prior to entering private practice, Alex held several commercial and in-house legal roles for almost a decade with a global telecoms company. As an in-house commercial litigator, he was responsible for managing a key aspect of the company's international product liability programme, conducted numerous sensitive internal investigations and acted on global commercial disputes.
Alex qualified in 2011.
