Melanie specialises in the defence of personal injury claims arising out of accidents that take place on the road, a public place or a workplace.

She has over 15 years’ experience advising clients in the insurance sector. Her clients range between multi-line household name insurers, to more bespoke insurer products, together with self-insured corporate organisations.

Melanie’s experience with a range of clients means that she can easily adapt to the different priorities of both large scale insurers and smaller organisations. She understands that listening to clients’ needs is the key element for a successful relationship and puts this at the forefront of every claim that she handles, regardless of value.

Relevant experience includes:

• The successful defence of a multi-party public liability action originating out of an accident to the householder co-ordinating the works. Given the lack of formal documentation between the parties to set out their responsibilities it was necessary to spend time with the client analysing the intentions of each party whilst on site in order to avoid liability for the accident.
• Assisting in the defence of a £1million+ claim originating out of allegations of workplace bullying, stress and harassment for a City organisation. Following a significant investment by the organisation in collaborating with Melanie throughout her investigations, the claim was discontinued.
• The investigation and defence of a large number of claims arising out of various gas explosions for a large utility company. The claims varied in severity, and included the fatality of a minor and alleged secondary victims. Such claims led to a wider consideration, and judgment upon, whether certain Regulations indicated civil liability for the utility company.
