Biography
Nico's practice focuses on health, higher education, and the wider public sector, where he advises a wide range of clients including central government, NHS commissioners and providers, regulators, charities, and professional bodies.
Nico is regularly instructed in connection with complex public law litigation, public inquiries, and strategic projects including mergers and acquisitions of NHS Foundation Trusts and governance reform projects.
Recent experience includes:
- Acting for the British Standards Institution (BSI) in expedited Court of Appeal proceedings which successfully overturned an injunction and mandatory order that prevented BSI from suspending the UKCA certificate applicable to a portable defibrillator in light of safety concerns.
- Successfully representing VFS Global in proceedings to lift the automatic suspension from contracting, which prevented VFS from entering into contracts with the Home Office worth over £750m.
- Acting as the senior in-house counsel to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.
- Successfully representing NHS England in judicial review proceeding challenging the legality of guidance relating to the discharge of patients from hospitals to care homes during the first wave of COVID-19.
