Roberto has over 25 years of experience in the Chilean insurance market, advising insurers and reinsurers on various matters, including the establishment of insurance companies, development of new business lines (Property, BI, D&O, Health-Care, Life, Surety), corporate and regulatory affairs, complex claims, and arbitration. He has also specialized in recovery strategies for losses indemnified by insurance companies.

He has participated as a lawyer and expert witness in high-complexity disputes and has provided counsel on the design and implementation of strategies and new insurance products for both the industry and the Chilean government.

Between 2010 and 2012, he served as an advisor to Chile’s Ministry of Finance during the parliamentary discussions on the new insurance contract law (Law 20.667). After its enactment, he assisted several insurance companies in implementing the new regulations.

In the academic field, he is the founder, former director, and current member of the Executive Board of the Risk and Insurance Center at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, where he also serves as a professor and researcher in commercial law. He has authored over 70 publications on insurance and financial law, including the book El Contrato de Seguros, Comentarios al Título VII, Libro II del Código de Comercio. He is a frequent speaker at conferences in Chile and abroad and serves on editorial and scientific committees for prestigious specialized journals.

Currently, he is the director of the Latin American Insurance and Reinsurance Mediation and Arbitration Center (ARIAS LATAM).

Roberto has been a lawyer since 1995 and holds a Master’s and a Doctorate in Law.
