Biographie
Martin joined DACB in April 2001. In addition to being responsible for some of the largest insurance clients, he is the account manager for RITC clients. The role is far reaching, including horizon scanning, benchmarking, innovation, process improvements and value add opportunities, including strategic and Westminster insights.
Martin has over 21 years’ experience advising clients on subrogation, subsidence in the insurance property market. Initially specialising in subsidence claims for many years (writing and editing the “Subsidence Handbook”), he now advises clients across a range of sectors including commercial, household, high net worth, motor, travel, marine and casualty, with a focus on subrogated claims.
His key clients include some of the largest well known composite insurers, mono-line and London Market insurers, managing general agents, third-party administrators, and corporates well known in the market.
He has strategic oversight for all property/recovery products within DACB, comprising of over 175 lawyers based in Birmingham, Glasgow, London, and Belfast.
Martin works with the Heads of Market and Strategy for motor, casualty, and fraud to deliver thought leadership, market trend analysis, and identify and drive campaigns.
Relevant experience includes:
- Advising an insurer on their subrogated processes across a number of lines of business (casualty, motor, property). Martin worked through their current processes, including identification from first notification of loss and a data set highlighting amounts recovered and a pipeline report with recovery forecasts. In addition, Martin explored risk and reward funding models to the mutual benefit of the parties. To date, the changes have increased the amount recovered by millions and improved their customer journey.
- Advising a large composite insurer on a complete outsource of their property recoveries. This has improved the amount recovered in the first 18 months by over £1.5 million in respect of their indemnity spend and reduced their direct costs. The client is now exploring a complete outsource in respect of motor and third-party property recoveries.
- Advising on a successful subrogated recovery following a fire in a rare motor vehicle that was converted from a race to a road car. Martin advised the insurer on appointing the market leading expert with the requisite knowledge of the particular make of vehicle enabling him to successfully negotiate a settlement over £2.5 million.
