Launched in 2016, Toast Ale uses surplus bread to brew award-winning craft beer and reduce food waste. By replacing 25% of the barley with bread, less land, water and energy is used in the production process, reducing the environmental impact. All of Toast Ale’s profits go to charities helping to fix the food system.
The legal advice being provided by the cross-cluster DACB team, involving the firm’s corporate, tax, IP and real estate practices and led by London corporate partner Jonathan Deverill, will enable Toast Ale to expand its offering with further investment to develop new products and partnerships.
Jonathan Deverill, partner and head of DACB’s London corporate team, says, “Toast Ale is driving brilliant, innovative solutions to develop the circular economy and tackle climate change by addressing the urgent need to reduce food waste. They also happen to brew excellent beer! We are delighted to partner with them on this project, which is enabling our lawyers to learn about these important issues whilst we continue to expand our ESG advisory practice.”
DACB’s Head of Responsible Business, Lois Duguid, commented, “Our support for Toast Ale is an important component of our growing ESG strategy as a firm for environmental and social sustainability. The opportunity to volunteer through this pro bono project is exciting for our lawyers, who care about climate change and are always looking for ways to help.”
Louisa Ziane, Toast’s Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer, said, “Our 2021 Impact Report, published earlier this month, sets out our achievements to date and how we collaborate with other organisations to magnify our impact. We’re delighted to be working with DAC Beachcroft and grateful for their support to help us grow our impact.”
