Overview

On the 7th December the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) released the Civil Justice Statistics Quarterly covering England and Wales for the period July to September 2023, the full details of which can be accessed here.

The table below has been extracted from these figures. Increases are shown in red and decreases in green.

Comment

While, overall, more claims are being issued than in the same quarter of 2022, the figures are showing as lower than the pre-covid baseline of the same quarter in 2019.

However, while time to trial for small claims, fast track and multi-track cases are all showing a year-on-year increase, the increase over the pre-covid baseline remains high with times to trial across all three tracks showing as more than 17 weeks.
