About Aine

Bio
  • Biography

Aine specialises in insurance litigation, with a particular interest in policy indemnity and coverage issues.

Since qualifying in 2009, Aine has worked for most of the top insurers in the UK and Ireland. She has handled a wide range of insurance claims and specialises in complex matters across a variety of sectors, including casualty, clinical risk and property.

Aine has combined experience in general insurance litigation with a background in clinical negligence claims and specialised risk. She has a wealth of experience in representing clients at inquest as well as at hearing. She frequently provides training and seminars to clients and has been a guest speaker at the Belfast Insurance Institute (BII) and the Institute of Professional Legal Studies.

    Her relevant expertise includes –

    • Providing policy indemnity advice to a client on a case worth £1.2million. The claim involved a tricky misrepresentation issue combined with issues of moral hazard. Detailed investigations with the client and the policyholder over a number of months eventually resulted in the claim being declined, with Aine drafting the repudiation letter to the policyholder.
    • Assisting clients in applying for Declarations urgently following the introduction of the Motor Vehicles (Compulsory Insurance) (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2019. These Regulations mean that from November 2019 it is no longer possible for insurers to rely on post-accident declarations of avoidance to save them from satisfying judgments obtained against their insureds. Aine assisted a number of clients in applying for urgent Declarations, thus resulting in savings of millions of pounds.
    • Representing one high profile client at a particularly contentious inquest arising from the death of a care home resident by suicide. The circumstances of the deceased’s death required careful handling, both in terms of the publicity which surrounded the case, and the sensitivity for the family and witnesses involved.
