  • Biography

    Chris specialises in construction disputes and assists clients in all forms of dispute resolution, including adjudication, mediation and litigation.

    Chris regularly acts for employers, developers, main-contractors and sub-contractors in various matters in relation to the construction and management of residential and commercial schemes, as well as groundworks, utilities, roads and infrastructure. He also acts for Insurers defending disputes against construction professionals including engineers, architects and designers and advising on complex policy coverage disputes.

    Recently Chris has significant experience in disputes arising under the Building Safety Act 2022, advising clients in this novel area of law, particularly in relation to Remediation Orders, Remediation Contribution Orders and other routes to recovery.

     

    Relevant experience:

    • Acting on behalf of an institutional investor in relation to an application for a Remediation Order under the Building Safety Act before the First Tier Tribunal and associated third party recoveries.
    • Acting on behalf of JCT Design & Build Contractor in connection with multimillion pound project for fit out works to major London Hospital in relation to disputes arising from flood event and the impact on general construction operations up to practical completion and negotiations on final account. Matter involved defending claim in the TCC and responding to Employer application for Injunctive Relief
    • Acting on behalf of structural engineer in connection with complex multi-party TCC dispute in connection with claim for £16m incurred in connection with remedial works to remedy defects in a residential development in Manchester.
    • Acting on behalf of high profile private individual in relation TCC claim arising from £5m renovation project to central London home and fraud perpetrated by main contractor. Matter involved investigations into fraud, asset tracking and obtaining injunctive relief.
    • Acting on behalf of Architect in connection with TCC claim arising from dispute for additional works following novation of appointment from Employer to Main Contractor in connection with major redevelopment of residential complex situated in Westminster, London.
    • Acting on behalf of Structural Engineer in response to TCC claim relating to defects with renovation and extension works completed on high value residential property in London, value of remedial works claimed in excess of £2m.
    • Acting on behalf of and M&E subcontractor in connection with claims relating to fire stopping and compartmentation works on large residential development totalling £1.3m

    Chris is a member of the Society of Construction Law and Chartered Insurance Institute.
