Biography
Helen has over 20 years of litigation experience and specialises in insurance fraud.
Helen joined DAC Beachcroft in 2011 and is now a Legal Director within the DACB Casualty Counter Fraud Team managing the Team in Newcastle, which deals exclusively with the defence of Casualty Fraud Claims arising from Employers Liability and Public Liability claims.
Helen manages successful client accounts, each with dedicated resource and a strategy tailored to the specific objectives and counter fraud solutions for each individual insurer and is involved in business development. She regularly delivers training on all aspects of Casualty Fraud to both insurer clients and public bodies.
Relevant experience includes:
- Securing an interlocutory strike out of a claimant’s claim as an abuse of process pursuant to the Supreme Court’s decision in Summers v Fairclough Homes Ltd [2012] 1 WLR 2004. The case resulted in savings in excess of £175,000 on the pleaded case and in the absence of the appropriate and tactical fraud investigations, the potential value of the claim may have exceeded £1million.
- Advising on, and representing the applicant, in respect of an application for permission to bring contempt proceedings following the dismissal of the Claimant’s claim and a finding of fundamental dishonesty at Trial.
- Investigating and advising a client in respect of an ongoing organised casualty fraud operation involving 50+ claims against their employer.
- Delivering a presentation on Organised Casualty Fraud at the IFB Advanced SPOC Training event.
