Biography
Martin specialises in resolving high profile disputes in the financial services sector.
He has 20 years’ experience helping clients to resolve complex, business-critical disputes through litigation, arbitration and mediation. He also advises on FCA investigations and enforcement action and helps corporate clients with sensitive internal investigations.
Martin’s work often spans multiple jurisdictions and other sectors besides financial services including tech/telecoms, health, leisure and real estate. He has spent time on secondment with IBM, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs and Vodafone.
Martin has particular experience of dealing with disputes which are subject to wider scrutiny, whether by the media, regulators and/or parliament.
Relevant experience includes:
- Defending a leading wealth management group against various investor claims including in relation to Harlequin property development and Imagine tax schemes, with the FCA involved as an interested party in one of the larger claims given its industry-wide ramifications.
- Defending various IFAs and insurers against investor/Financial Services Compensation Scheme claims arising from the Keydata collapse.
- Defending a peer-to-peer lending platform against a claim by a property developer which raised industry-wide issues.
- Prosecuting a warranty claim in 4 jurisdictions in the industrial manufacturing sector.
- Defending an IPR claim by one multinational pharma JV partner against another.
Martin is recognised as a ‘Next Generation Partner’ and a ‘key figure with experience of high-value litigation’ by the Legal 500.
