International law firm DAC Beachcroft is pleased to announce that leading dispute resolution lawyer Mercedes Romero has joined the firm in Madrid. She joins from Pérez-Llorca, where she was also a partner in Madrid and provisional Head of its Dispute Resolution team in Barcelona.

Mercedes has extensive experience advising clients across the financial, construction, engineering, corporate, energy, and telecommunications sectors. She has taken part in complex judicial and arbitral proceedings, both nationally and internationally, advising on all types of contractual disputes.

Mercedes also advises on insolvency proceedings and enforcement proceedings of foreign judgments and awards, as well as other issues relating to private international law. In addition, she sits as an arbitrator in institutional arbitrations.

“We are delighted to welcome Mercedes to the team,” said José María Álvarez-Cienfuegos, partner and Madrid location head. “Establishing a leading arbitration and commercial litigation practice in Madrid will help us meet the growing needs of both our domestic and international clients. We already have in place an extremely capable team with international arbitration and litigation experience, and with Mercedes on board, we are excited to expand our capabilities further.”

“Not only will Mercedes’ expertise bolster our Madrid office, but it will also help us consolidate our international dispute resolution practice,” added Gustavo Blanco, DAC Beachcroft’s International Development Director. “We are investing heavily in strengthening our litigation and international arbitration capabilities across our global locations with a view to becoming a truly global practice. This will give us additional competitive advantage and put us in a stronger position to give our clients what they need, where they need it.”

DAC Beachcroft currently has seven partners and 35 lawyers in Madrid. The office handles all manner of insurance-related claims, from international personal injury work to complex cross-border and high-value claims, particularly in the fields of energy, construction and engineering.

Earlier this year DAC Beachcroft joined forces with leading healthcare law firm Asjusa in Spain, adding a three-partner and 20-strong specialised team of professional liability and insurance lawyers, focused on the healthcare segment of the insurance market, to the firm.

Mercedes said, “DAC Beachcroft has an excellent reputation, an impressive client list, and an international footprint that will give me the right platform and opportunities to develop my practice further.

“It is apparent that the firm is committed to growing and diversifying in Spain and internationally to provide its clients the best possible service and resource wherever it is needed. I am very pleased to be joining the team.”
