Overview

International law firm DAC Beachcroft is pleased to announce it has won the Fraud Intelligence Team of the Year award at the 2023 Insurance Post Claims & Fraud Awards.

The multi award-winning Intelligence Team, headed up by Kate Abrahams, Head of Intelligence and Data Analytics, received this latest recognition for its work in raising awareness in the insurance market of the risks posed from fraudulent 'shallowfake' documents, or digitally tampered documents which promote falsehoods, and developing a comprehensive training programme for insurers to help them detect and prevent shallowfake fraud.

Natalie Randall, Organised Fraud & Financial Crime Lead at DAC Beachcroft, said, "We identified early on the risks posed by shallowfakes and the need to raise awareness amongst insurers of how quickly the technology behind them was evolving.  We undertook detailed analysis and investigation to create a database of shallowfake examples, developed detection guidance, and then created a bespoke training programme to equip insurance industry professionals with the tools and knowledge to detect shallowfaked documents."

DACB's Intelligence Team has trained hundreds of insurance professionals over the last year on how to spot the tell-tale signs of shallowfake technology and provides ongoing support in this quickly evolving area.

Kate said, "DAC Beachcroft’s Intelligence Team has had a fantastic reputation for a long time.  We consistently deliver for our clients, and this award recognises the high esteem the industry holds us in."

In addition to Kate Abrahams and Natalie Randall, the DACB Intelligence Team working on shallowfakes includes Dennis Davies, an Intelligence Analyst who is an illustrator in in his spare time so has a special interest in the development of technology in this area.

The Intelligence Team is no stranger to awards, having previously been recognised for its Intelligence Training School, which enhanced and honed the counter-fraud skills of intelligence professionals.  For their work, the team won the Outstanding Training Innovation Award at the 2022 Legal Business Awards and The Training Award at the Insurance Post Claims & Fraud Awards in 2021.
