Overview

There have been many legal issues surrounding the use of recordings from dashboard cameras, commonly known as 'dashcams'. However the Higher Regional Court of Stuggart has recently ruled that dashcam recordings are admissible in the prosecution of severe traffic offences. This is the first high court ruling on this topic and an appeal against it has been denied.

However the Higher Regional Court of Stuggart has recently ruled that dashcam recordings are admissible in the prosecution of severe traffic offences. This is the first high court ruling on this topic and an appeal against it has been denied.

This is an interesting development as it potentially opens the door to other uses for dashcam recordings. Organisations that make use of dashcams or their recordings should monitor further developments in this area.

A copy of the ruling can be accessed here (German).
