Overview

On the 17th November 2023 the Master of the Rolls, Sir Geoffrey Vos, chair of the Civil Justice Council and Head of Civil Justice announced that the 2021 Guideline Hourly Rates would be uplifted for inflation with effect from 1st January 2024 in accordance with the Services Producer Price Index.

The figures have now been released and are set out in the table below. The new hourly rates are shown in bold, the 2021 figures in red, and the percentage increase in green.

Fee-earner grades:

A             Solicitors and legal executives with over 8 years’ experience

B             Solicitors and legal executives with over 4 years’ experience

C             Other solicitors or legal executives and fee earners of equivalent experience

D             Trainee solicitors, paralegals and other fee earners

The announcement which can be accessed here states "These rates uplift previous 2021 rates by the Services Producer Price Index, Q1 2022 Q1 2023 inclusive so as not to include provisional SPPI data. Inflation post Q1 2023 will be captured in future annual uplifts."
