    Helen Kingston has extensive experience advising NHS Trusts, local authorities and other health and social care organisations over a range of healthcare and related issues. Her main area of expertise is mental health and mental capacity law, which she has advised on since 1994.

    In addition, from 2004 to 2014, Helen has lectured for Northumbria University, (latterly as a Principal Lecturer) where she specialised in mental health, mental capacity and medical law issues, and has been responsible for a number of programmes including the Mental Health Law Policy & Practice Certificate, and the Postgraduate Certificate for non-medically qualified Approved Clinicians.

    Helen also played a key part in the establishment & coordination of the University's Annual North of England Mental Health Act Conference.

    Also, Helen has run modules on the Mental Health & Medical Law LLM programmes. She continues to provide regular training (including mandatory refresher training) for professionals, including Approved Clinician and S.12 training, Mental Health Assessors, Best Interest Assessors, Approved Mental Health Professionals, Hospital Managers and Local Authority solicitors. 

    In addition, Helen regularly provides bespoke courses and speaks at seminar events nationally.
