Joanne specialises in defending clinical negligence claims for the NHS.

Joanne has been defending clinical negligence claims on behalf of NHS Resolution since 2004. She co-manages the Clinical Risk team in Leeds.

She is highly regarded for her work on catastrophic injury claims for children and adults and specialises in birth injury matters.

Joanne also sits on various Litigation and Patient Safety Review Groups for NHS Trusts.

Relevant experience includes advising:

• NHS Resolution on metal-on-metal hip claims against the NHS nationally. Joanne has a lead role in advising NHS Resolution on combination prosthesis metal hip claims. She advises on novel issues involving product liability under the Consumer Protection Act and Medical Devices Regulations.
• Notable matters include the successful defence of an application by a group of claimants in the combination metal-on-metal hip prosthesis claims to refer the claims to the European Court of Justice (ECJ).
• As part of a team for the Secretary of State for Health as an interested party in the GLO trial of Gee and others .v. Depuy International Ltd (the Depuy Pinnacle Metal on Metal Hip Litigation), 2018.
• On Grimstone .v. Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.

In addition, Joanne sits on the committee for the Leeds and District Medico Legal society.

Joanne volunteers at St James’s Hospital in Leeds and mentors A Level students at Allerton Grange Academy in Leeds as part of the firm’s volunteering campaign in collaboration with the NHS.
