Lawyers Liability
We are acutely aware of the reputational, financial and personal impact professional liability claims and regulatory investigations and prosecutions can have for individuals, firms and their insurers. We offer commercial advice based on our deep understanding of this sector which is tailored to your needs. We have the expertise and resources to deliver results swiftly and effectively, whatever the issue.
Overview
We have acted in headline cases and represented insurers of solicitors in City and international law firms, as well as those in niche partnerships and smaller high street firms.
Our expertise also includes representing barristers and their insurers and other legal professionals such as will writers and Licensed Conveyancers.
We also offer a specialist professional indemnity claims handling service which provides outsourced solutions to insurers and large self-insureds. The team deals with large volumes of professional risk claims and offers innovative charging and claims-handling models.
We have professional indemnity and regulatory lawyers based across the UK and internationally, so we can support you wherever you are.
Dedicated relationship partners combined with innovative technology means we deliver high quality, bespoke support, with a proactive approach.
Featured experience
- We acted for the successful lawyers in the first instance and Court of Appeal proceedings in Yee & others v 174 Law Solicitors Ltd, and in successfully opposing the claimants' application for permission to appeal to the Supreme Court.
- Successfully defended Anglo-Scottish solicitors firm Shepherd & Wedderburn in a £200 million claim brought against the firm by the former owners of Sheffield United Football Club.
- Acted for a solicitor in the context of an SRA prosecution relating to the alleged misuse of Legal Aid funds. The most serious allegation was lack of integrity which we successfully defeated thereby avoiding the most severe of the possible sanctions that could have been imposed.
- Acted for a solicitor accused of dishonesty as a result of the way that he had drafted a letter to his opponents in an agricultural holdings dispute. The allegation of dishonesty was defeated and the solicitor thereby avoided being struck off which would have been the most likely outcome had dishonesty been proven.
