Alan has a wealth of experience handling insurance and commercial disputes. He handles major subrogated recoveries for insurers following damage claims as well as providing advice on policy coverage issues. He advises clients in relation to high value personal injury claims and claims arising from professional negligence.  He has a particular expertise in advising on policy coverage issues relating to EL, PL, Property and CAR policies and has extensive experience of non-disclosure and misrepresentation issues. He also heads the Scottish recoveries team.

Alan acts in significant claims with an international dimension, with a particular interest in the ever-increasing impact of European law on Scottish domestic law. He also has considerable experience across the spectrum of commercial disputes, including debt recovery, construction and real estate disputes. Highly IT literate, Alan assists clients to ensure delivery of quality bespoke management information for customers.

Alan has been involved in a number of significant matters over the years including:

• Successfully negotiating the settlement of a multi-million pound coverage dispute for a nominal sum.
• Successfully pursuing a six figure subrogated action on behalf a foreign state’s national compensation body in a litigation that one of the Scotland’s most senior QCs described as the most complex case he had ever seen.
• Representing clients in a major multi-party complex property damage construction litigation.
