The works, on which DACB supported infrastructure developer client Balfour Beatty, will provide a brighter and friendlier space to children using the hospital. A virtual fishtank is built into the Reception desk and children will be able to use an interactive augmented reality wall.
Construction work was done by Balfour Beatty and the new technology was provided by national charity, Starlight. The DACB team, led by James Harrison and supported by client relationship partner for Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Charlotte Burnett from the firm’s market-leading health team, advised on the preparation and negotiation of the terms of the construction contract.
DACB is a full-service firm with historic ties to the NHS, and is widely recognised as the leading strategic, commercial and regulatory legal adviser to the health and social care sector in the UK.
James Harrison, DACB’s Head of Construction and Engineering, said, “We were delighted to be involved with this project; improving the arrival experience for children is a very worthy cause and will make a real impact on young lives. Using our legal skills to provide pro bono support to such important projects is an important part of our firm’s ESG strategy.”
Charlotte Burnett, partner in DACB’s health sector, commented, “Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is a key local client which we have supported over many years. We are pleased to have been able to support this project delivering a brighter and friendly space for children, complimenting the organisational and staff values.”
DACB’s pro bono programme provides legal support to a number of causes including:
- Contributing to The Chancery Lane Project’s Climate contract Playbook; a clause requiring companies to carry out a climate change risk assessment, to be inserted into the General Conditions of corporate insurance policies across all lines of business, was drafted by a DACB associate
- Providing Mimica – a company producing labels that more accurately indicate freshness in perishable products and therefore reduce food wastage – with advice on liability in the event of false label readings.
- Acting as sole legal adviser to the Trinity Challenge, a project established by Dame Sally Davies to develop insights and actions that will safeguard the lives and livelihoods of one billion more people against outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics.
