Overview

International law firm DAC Beachcroft is pleased to announce it has won the Outstanding Social Impact Award at the British Legal Awards 2023.

The firm was recognised for its partnership with Change Please, the social enterprise which helps lift people out of homelessness by providing therapy, training, support with housing, and employment as coffee baristas.

DACB supports Change Please through pro bono legal advice and a bespoke training programme which it delivers through its colleague volunteers that helps Change Please 'trainees' develop employability skills. Forty homeless people have been helped through the DACB and Change Please partnership over the last two years, with 85 per cent securing onward employment.

In addition to the sale of coffee through retail outlets, Change Please coffee is supplied wholesale to businesses – including DAC Beachcroft. As a social enterprise, 100 per cent of Change Please profits go to its charitable foundation to help more homeless people.

Lois Duguid, DAC Beachcroft’s Head of ESG and Responsible Business, said, "It's an honour to receive an award that recognises our commitment to improve the lives of people experiencing homelessness, and we are looking forward to developing our partnership with Change Please further."

Susan Taylor, Recruitment Manager at Change Please, said, "DACB has gone above and beyond for our trainees. They have worked closely with us to design a programme that meets their needs, with understanding and empathy for people whose lives can sometimes be chaotic and challenging. This intervention is a real help to us in making work ‘work’ for people coming out of homelessness situations."
