Overview

On 21 November 2024, the Government published the rates of statutory payments for family-related leave and sick leave that will apply from April 2025.

New statutory pay rates from April 2025

The proposed increases are:

  • Statutory maternity pay, maternity allowance, paternity pay, adoption pay, shared parental pay and parental bereavement pay will increase from £184.30 to £187.70 per week.
  • Statutory sick pay will increase from £116.75 to £118.75 per week.

In order to qualify for these payments (other than maternity allowance), employees must earn above the lower earnings limit. This is currently £123 per week, but will increase to £125 per week from April 2025. (Note, though, that the Employment Rights Bill will remove the lower earnings limit as a qualifying requirement for SSP, although this is not expected to take effect until 2026.)

The updated rates of the National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage, which will apply from April 2025, were published at the end of October (see our alert here).
