About Laura

Biography
  • Biographie

Laura was called to the Bar in 2021, having transferred following qualification as a Chartered Legal Executive in 2016 and subsequently as a solicitor in 2017. Prior to taking tenancy at external chambers, Laura was a solicitor in the complex and catastrophic injury team at DAC Beachcroft’s Leeds office where she acted on behalf of major insurer clients such as Zurich, Aviva, Allianz and QBE, in addition to local NHS trusts and NHS Resolution. As a former solicitor, Laura is uniquely placed to understand the commercial considerations of both the firm and its clients.

Laura has specialised in personal injury litigation for over 15 years and has a busy civil practice, regularly receiving instructions to attend trials and interlocutory hearings, to draft pleadings, and to provide advice on liability and quantum in both fast-track and multi-track claims.

Laura's practice spans the full range of casualty claims, and she has a particular interest in claims arising from employers' liability and occupiers' liability. Laura has substantial experience in motor claims, and has been instructed in motor fraud claims by a variety of national insurers. She has experience as both a solicitor and a barrister in defending low velocity impact (LVI) claims, staged accidents, and claims involving occupancy issues. Laura is also fully conversant with credit hire claims and the relevant case law.

Laura has experience of defending employers' liability and occupiers'/public liability claims where surveillance footage and/or online intelligence has been utilised, and is well versed in the relevant issues surrounding use of such evidence.

Laura has a particular interest in claims where causation is disputed, where there are indications that injury has been exaggerated, or where there are allegations of fundamental dishonesty. She has been successful in securing findings of fundamental dishonesty, disapplying QOCS, and obtaining enforceable costs orders on behalf of insurer clients.

She also has extensive experience of drafting statements of case pleading fraud or challenging the veracity of claims.

Laura is available to provide training to solicitor and insurer clients, and has previously presented seminars covering topics such as strategy and tactics in fundamental dishonesty claims, bringing claims under the Animals Act, and the fundamental principles of the Highways Act and the Occupiers' Liability Act.

    Featured expertise:

    • K v A (2023) – causation dispute in a claim where it was alleged the claimant had sustained significant injury but had sought no medical attention. Lengthy cross-examination and submissions pursuant to Molodi v Cambridge Vibration Maintenance Service (2018) led to dismissal of the claim (despite breach of duty being admitted) as the court could not be satisfied that the claimant had proven his claim for injury on the balance of probabilities.
    • H v H & W (2024) – successful in obtaining an order for strike out against 5 claimants, in a case where there had been fundamental dishonesty concerns, in addition to the disapplication of QOCS and an enforceable costs order against the claimants.
    • B v K (2025) – submissions on the obligations of occupiers pursuant to Debell v Dean and Chapter of Rochester Cathedral (2016) led to the dismissal of the claim.
    • P v Z & U (2025) – secured a finding on behalf of the insurer client that the accident had been deliberately caused by D1 by way of a "slam on" and the involvement of a stooge vehicle. Laura was also successful in arguing that the standard costs claimed by the claimant in the sum of £78,000 should be limited to fixed costs of circa £16,000.
