Biographie
Stephen is a Property and Construction Insurance lawyer in our Manchester office.
He has 30 years’ experience advising insurers. His property insurance practice includes large and complex recoveries for insurers and advising on all aspects of policy coverage including fraudulent claims, policy voidance, breach of warranty and condition, co-insurance and reinstatement on property, liability, construction/engineering and project policies and policy drafting.
Recent experience includes:
- Acting on behalf of the successful respondent in the reported case Prezzo v High Point, a £6 million claim for fire damage in a listed property, collapse of a hotel building, an explosion at wood treatment facility, and multi- million pound recovery on behalf of 18 insurer and non-insurer clients arising out of the Leyland Warehouse fire in 2011.
- Routinely advising on policy coverage in relation a range of insurance policies including complex PPP and PFI projects (a failure of cladding at a hospital), technology, public and product liability.
- Defending a range of liability claims; for example, contractors in relation to construction site fires and meat suppliers in relation to alleged product liability.
The legal 500 singled out Stephen for "excellent commercial awareness."
Chambers have said Stephen is “very pragmatic in looking into what’s going to be the most practical strategy to achieve the optimum result.”
Stephen is an accredited mediator. He qualified in 1990 and joined legacy firm DAC in 2000. He was managing partner of DAC's Manchester office from 2000-2010.
